The Environmental Justice Committee works to highlight and address environmental concerns impacting the quality of life in Georgia. This disportionate impact adn citing of environmental hazards in and near communities of color is well documented. This pattern persists and we work with local communities to help ensure enforcement of environmental regulations protective of human heath and the environment. The coalition has been active on air quality, water and waste issues. Committee members work closely with Georgia environmental organizations helping to ensure a focus on environmental justice. The Coalition for the Peoples' Agenda helped to coordinate the involvement of several broad networks in the development of "Air of Injustice," a report on the impact of power plant pollution on African-Americans. The report is available online at the Clean Air Task Force. |
